Mas O Menos

Updated: Oct 9, 2020

When I was a teenager, I friended this super cute guy I saw from the hallway sitting in an ESL class at a neighborhood community college. His English was terrible but boy, was he nice to hold hands with. We'd try conversations all the time and when I would ask him a question, often times he would answer with "Ehhhh, más o menos . . . ." Más o menos means "more or less". It wasn't really an answer to what I asked but hey, I was 13 staring at a super cute foreign guy - I didn't care what he said.

Although that is a fantastic story about young love, I want to share with you today a variation of that expression which is "menos es más" which means "less is more".

As we come back to the gyms and start re-entering our previous "normal" routines, I want you to remember that LESS IS MORE.

If you've put on weight during these last few months of #shelterinplace then expect to take at least another 3 to 6 months of consistency until you are back in you old body.

If you're noticing those weights are feeling heavier than usual then expect to take the time to work back up to those old PR's.

The worse thing you can do to yourself right now is try go back to "normal" right away.

Starving yourself and working out non-stop is just going to create burnout which usually leads to injury.

Take it one day at a time, one workout at a time and be kind to yourself when at the end of the day you kicked your own ass just going into work and maybe a walk on lunch.

It happens.
